Nick Davies began his conducting career in 1986 through Musical Theatre. His numerous West End Credits include, Martin Guerre, Oklahoma!, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Fred Astaire – his Daughter’s Tribute, Phantom of the Opera and My Fair Lady. For Les Misérables, he has worked as both Musical Director in the West End and Musical Supervisor in Germany, Finland and Belgium. For Grange Park Opera he conducted Cole Porter’s Anything Goes to critical acclaim. Davies was Musical Director and conductor for the world premiere of the Disney/Cameron Mackintosh production of Mary Poppins at the Prince Edward Theatre, London, and was Musical Director for the 2006 production of Evita at the Adelphi Theatre, London.
Since January 2011 Davies has held the post of Chief Conductor for Vantaa Pops Orchestra in Finland. He is a regular guest conductor with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra and has worked with them on various tours, memorable concerts and a number of award-winning recordings. Together with the orchestra he has also had the honour to conduct the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo annually since 2007.
Davies´s vast experience has increased through his work as a guest conductor with numerous European orchestras, including, the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, The Hallé, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, City of London Sinfonia, Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Lahti Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, Kungliga Filharmonikerna, Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia, Orchestra della Toscana and Orchestra di Toscanini, Bergen Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic , Tampere Philharmonic, Oulu Symphony, Kuopio Symphony and the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.
Work further afield includes the Orchestra of the Central Opera Company of Beijing, Hong Kong Philharmonic and Hong Kong Sinfonietta. In 2009 Davies made his Australian debut conducting the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has since returned to conduct the Sydney Symphony Orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, Adelaide Symphony and Western Australia Symphony in Perth.
Davies was the Musical Director for New York City Opera’s production of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella, which was performed in Japan, and gave the world premiere of Garbo -The Musical at Oscars Theatre in Stockholm. He supervised and opened Miss Saigon, Evita, Three-penny Opera, Beauty and the Beast and The Producers during his tenure as Head of Music at Helsinki City Theatre.
For Gothenburg Opera Davies was music director for productions of Loesser’s Guys & Dolls, Bernstein’s West Side Story and Herman’s La Cage aux Folles. He was music director for a brand new production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera at Finnish National Opera in September 2015 which transfered to Gothenburg Opera in 2017.
Future engagements include three new productions at Finnish National Opera and Ballet in 2018 and 2019, and The Barber of Sevilla for Gothenburg Opera. Davies will also conduct the Classic BRIT Awards 2018.
